The ILO and the Cusco Regional Direction of Foreign Trade, Tourism and Handicrafts organize course on financial education for MSMEs in the tourism sector

The ILO’s Global Centre on Digital Wages for Decent Work, in partnership with the Regional Direction of Foreign Trade, Tourism and Handicrafts Cusco (GERCETUR), organized in Cusco the training course “Financial Education for MSMEs in the tourism sector”, to develop financial capabilities and promote and facilitate the adoption of digital wage payments in micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs) on 25, 26 and 27 October 2023.

The 9-hour-course was offered over 3 half days to approximatively 60 small business owners or managers, many of whom were women entrepreneurs. The course used the new ILO training material on financial education for MSMEs and workers in Peru. The course was delivered by 3 ILO certified trainers and provided the participants – distributed into 3 groups – with knowledge and practical tools to improve their money management, as well as guidance on access to and safe use of formal financial services.

The participants strengthened their financial skills in relation to setting financial goals, budgeting, receiving and using wages safely through digital means, learning about savings methods, comparing financing options and understanding payment methods.

Many of the representatives of micro and small enterprises expressed their interest in learning more about digital wage payments for their business and their workers. In that sense, a training course on responsible digitization of wage payments will be offered early 2024 to foster adoption of digital wages among MSMEs in the tourism sector.
